Gosset Celebris Extra Brut 2002 - Bt | RP95
HK$1,500.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 2002 Celebris Vintage Extra Brut displays a noble, clear, fresh and subtle bouquet with white fruit and brioche flavors intertwined with mineral aromas. Silky textured and highly elegant, this full-bodied yet delicate blend of 48% Pinot Noir and 52% Chardonnay is clear and straight on the palate, revealing a ripe and intense, yet refined fruit. It has a persistent and complex, firmly structured, stimulatingly pure and salty finish. Great finesse and ethereal lightness here, with great purity and mineral tension. It also has the intensity of perfect fruit in the long and persistent finish. A great Champagne for the next ten and probably many more years.

Chateau de Bonnezeaux Vieilles Vignes du Fief Prevost Chenin 2021 - Bt
HK$1,080.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

It is sourced from vines planted in 1975/76 on thin clay-loam over exposed schist. Exceptionally low yields and four years of ageing in older oak have produced a deeply layered Chenin, marked by lemon, quince, beeswax, white flowers, ginger and flint. It is the most structured, savoury and ageworthy wine here.

Chateau Clinet 1999 - Bt | NM88
HK$1,300.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 1999 Clinet is a historically pivotal vintage, since it was the year that Jean-Louis Laborde (Ronan’s father) acquired the estate. It has a lovely bouquet of ripe blackberry, mulberry, pain d’épices and black truffle aromas that feel quite cohesive and focused. The rugged, saline palate is mediumbodied and quite rustic compared to today’s offerings, linear in style and slightly chewy in terms of tannin. A slight monotony is highlighted by the superlative 2016 Clinet tasted alongside. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate

Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2005 - Bt | AG93
HK$2,000.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 2005 Tignanello is just beginning to enter the early part of its drinking window, although it clearly has enough stuffing to drink well for another 20 years, if not longer. Smoke, graphite, plums, earthiness, black cherries and spices take shape in the glass, but it is the wine pure power and intensity - both remarkable for a vintage that was considered light at the outset - that truly stand out. The style is dark, brooding and muscular, with notable density and tons of personality. The wildness of Sangiovese comes through loud and clear. Although not the most polished Tignanello, the 2005 is certainly not lacking in personality

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 1982 - Bt | RP96
HK$3,100.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 1982 Léoville Poyferré continues to drink brilliantly at age 40 (and I have enjoyed three bottles this year), wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet cassis fruit mingled with notions of loamy soil, cigar wrapper, licorice, black truffle and pencil shavings. Full-bodied, broad and sumptuous, with a velvety attack that segues into a deep, fleshy core, it's generous and enveloping, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins that still deliver a vestige of back-end grip. Today, this is a strong contender for the title of Saint-Julien's wine of the vintage, with Ducru-Beaucaillou and Léoville-Las Cases as its only plausible rivals.

Jean-Marc Vincent Santenay Le Passetemps Premier Cru 2021 - Bt | NM91-93
HK$1,100.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 2021 Santenay Le Passetemps 1er Cru, cropped at just 20hl/ha, is much more closed on the nose compared to Vincent's other cuvées, which he told me is usual. The palate is well balanced with a little more flesh and substance, a dense 2021 with a pure blackberry, raspberry and black pepper-infused finish. This will require three to four years in bottle.

The Sadie Family Die Ouwingerdreeks T Voetpad 2021 - Bt | RP96
HK$980.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

Made from vineyards first planted in 1887 and 1928, the 2021 Old Vine Series T Voetpad comes from the oldest, dry white wine vineyard in South Africa. Cerebral and delightfully waxy, it has freshness with sweet citrus tones that sway with aromas of raw honeycomb and dusty citrus blossom. Medium-bodied, the palate is energetic with plenty of life left in it and shows a delightful kiss of phenolic bitterness and soft tannic lift that makes this a silent juggernaut for food and wine pairings. Absolutely stellar!

Stock Location: HK

A traditional-method sparkler from equal parts Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois off 1978 Alsatian limestone vines. Whole-cluster pressed to steel, it ferments to 21g/l sugar, then is chilled and bottled to finish. Fine, delicate bubbles with apple-flint aromas, then green apple, grass and saline notes. Refreshing.

Charles Dufour Bulles de Comptoir #13 NV - Bt
HK$660.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

This Extra Brut Champagne blends 60% Pinot Noir with 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Blanc, about 80% from 2019 and the rest reserve wines from 2010 to 2018. Straw-gold with a fine bead, it offers red berries, ripe citrus and yellow fruit on the nose, then bread and toast. The palate is taut and saline, fresh through the middle, with a dry bitter flick that keeps you coming back.

Tasting note

Reductive with perhaps a slight volatility as a top note, but well within my threshold. Fresh chiselled acidity at the back, a limestone wash, yet all with an impressive intensity of quality white fruit backed by perfectly integrated acidity. Bt (750ml)

Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs (With Gift Box) 2002 - Bt | RP98
HK$2,900.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 2002 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is beginning to drink very well, wafting from the glass with a brilliant bouquet that mingles aromas of pear, citrus confit and dried fruits with notions of marzipan, brioche, oyster shell and smoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and textural, with a layered and multidimensional core, considerable concentration and a long, penetrating finish. Racy and precise though the wine is, this is a somewhat broader, richer rendition of Comtes than the compelling 2008 that preceded it in this tasting, but it's hard to choose between the two in terms of quality.

Envinate Palo Blanco 2022 - Bt | RP98
HK$580.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The heat from late August didn't affect much the grapes that were used for the 2022 Palo Blanco, as they are picked much later than the grapes from other zones of Tenerife. So, the 2022 vintage in Los Realejos is a lot fresher than in Taganana or La Orotava. In fact, I liked the palate of this 2022 better than that of the 2021; it's vibrant, lovely and fresh. The nose is still a little reductive, and the notes of flowers and herbs take time to emerge. 13,000 bottles and 167 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Chateau de Bonnezeaux La Minee Haut Chenin 2023 - Bt
HK$880.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Rich and expansive, La Minée-Haute comes from south-west-facing vines planted in 1997/98. Clay over schist gives the wine both weight and underlying tension. After 24 months in older oak, it shows ripe orchard fruit, quince, spice and waxy depth, finishing with the broad, saline persistence that distinguishes it as the most powerful of the two 2023 Minées.

Chateau Calon-Segur 1988 - Bt | NM89
HK$1,580.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 1988 Calon Segur is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 33% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Though I have tasted most vintages of this estate since 1982, this was in fact the first time to taste this particular vintage. It has a rustic, slightly ferrous bouquet, dominated by black fruit, copper piping, damp loam and undergrowth. You perceive a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc than actually exists in the blend, nonetheless it is a charming old school Saint-Estèphe bouquet. The palate is mediumbodied with melted tannin and a softer texture than I expected. There is quite a noticeable bell pepper component in situ, ferrous in style, earthy and what you might call “solid”. It fades a little towards the mushroom-tinged finish. Now at 30-years old, it is a wine that would show much better at the dinner table than on its own. Tasted at the château.

HK$2,650.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

Tasted at the property, the 1985 Pichon Lalande is fully matured on the feral, tertiary nose, and like the bottle I tasted a couple of years ago, this has recently become much more diffuse than exemplary showing during the 1990s and 2000s. The palate is fleshy and smooth like many wines of this vintage, but in recent years, the tannins have become and little edgier, the fruit degraded and turning quite mushroom-like and earthy on the finish. I would broach bottles of this over the next five years, because I feel that it is drying out. Tasted March 2016.

Hand-harvested with 30% whole bunches and 70% destemmed grapes, it shows a refined nose of ripe cherries, fresh foliage and delicate herbs. The palate is juicy yet elegant, with silky tannins, mineral salinity, bright acidity and a long, captivating finish. Excellent aging potential.

HK$1,500.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 2022 À Mi-Chemin is not a wine you should judge by its cover: initially, it seems very ripe, fruity and welcoming on the nose. But then it shows its true colors. This wine is the vinous equivalent of having a bucket of water thrown in your face while you're asleep. The tension and mineral flinty character are real wake-up calls for your palate. Its persistence and line are powerfully pushed across your palate. It has spice and momentum and holds you tight. The 2022 needs time. The 2017 Bourgueil Clos Nouveau opens deep and concentrated on the pure, fresh and intense nose that exhibits spicy notes of blue and black berries. Silky, vital and enormously nervy on the fresh yet concentrated palate, this is an iodine and mineral Cabernet Franc with a tight structure that deserves special handling: aeration! I tasted the wine again after seven days, and it had certainly changed. The nose remained pure and elegant and revealed a deep, intense and complex bouquet with concentrated cherry and dark berry aromas along with iodine notes. Full-bodied, wide and generous on the palate yet firm and with a silky-elegant texture, this is a very intense and robust giant in the making that still needs years to show its true capacity. The 2016 Vintage Port was aged for 20 months in wood and comes in with 102 grams of residual sugar. When last seen, this was a fine Taylor's, not my favorite, perhaps, but very fine. It is a little precocious in this elegant year, which is not to say there isn't a tannic backbone. Also, this did have a few hours in the glass. Still, the first and last impression is the big, beautiful fruit. It is a delicious Taylor's that is hard to resist. It also is firm on the finish and likely to evolve well. Complexity will come in time. I don't see any reason to change anything about my original evaluation just now. This is still too young to show much development.

But a wine of outstanding breadth and persistence, deeper and sweeter than the 2000. Tannins are substantial but quite fine.

Expect aromas of spiced pears verging on nectarine, a touch of savory character and the merest whiff of white pepper. This has lots of substance and an almost tannic, structured finish. It is nowhere near ready but it is balanced, harmonious and on its way to a graceful long life. Impressive without being showy – and that's not easy to do. HK$450.00

Bt (750ml)

Stock Location: HK

Tasting note

The 2024 Majuelos del Chiviritero comes from a 2.53-hectare plot at 750 meters above sea level. It was planted by Isaac Cantalapiedra and his father, Heliodoro, in 1981 on classical fluvial terraces of La Seca covered in boulders; and in 2024, they added some more plots of similar characteristics and age that were used before for Cantayano, so they made a slight adjustment of the name. They always get low yields here, so it's a wine with more concentration, depth and volume, with the energy and tension from the limestone. The juice from the direct pressing of the bunches fermented with all the sediments in used French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts for 15 to 20 days without temperature control and had full malolactic fermentation. The wine matured in French oak barrels for 11 months, followed by another seven months in stainless steel. 2024 was cooler than 2023, and the wines show more precision and are finer-boned. This is elegant and streamlined, more about the soil than the variety, tasty, with a salty twist in the finish. It has contained ripeness and 13.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.26 and 6.63 grams of acidity. It grew in volume and quality; vintages are like that... There's finesse and elegance. It overdelivers for the price. 19,672 bottles and 180 magnums produced. It was bottled in February 2026.

Opening in the glass with aromas of pastry cream, dried fruits, pear, warm spices, freshly baked bread and vanilla pod, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and fine-boned, with excellent concentration, racy acids and a precise, chiseled profile. But if the latter adjective could be applied to the 2013-base 169ème édition equally felicitously, the 2014-base 170ème is more giving and less tightly wound out of the gates and will offer more demonstrative drinking young.

As I wrote earlier this year, the 1982 Léoville Las Cases is one of the least evolved wines of the vintage, and this impeccably conserved ex-château bottle was, if anything, even more youthful still. Retaining a saturated ruby-black hue at age 40, it unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis and other dark fruits mingled with notions of pencil shavings and loamy soil. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad-shouldered and muscular, with an ample core of fruit framed by voluminous, powdery tannins. Rich and concentrated, with an expansive, comparatively low-acid profile, it comes into its own with extended aeration—and with food.
