Rare Availability | Chateau Petit Gravet Aine 2020 Parcel

Chateau Petit Gravet Aine is located on the Pied de Cote in Saint Emilion, right beside Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere. This 2.5-hectare vineyard showcases one of the highest concentrations of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux, with 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot planted in deep, sandy, clay soils. With an average vine age of 50 years, owner and winemaker Catherine Papon Nouvel has converted this family vineyard to organic farming.

The hand-harvested grapes undergo an 8-day cold soak and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels and ages for 18 months in 100% new French oak.

Rarely available in bottle in Hong Kong, our Chateau Petit Gravet Aine 2020 parcel is purchased En-Primeur directly from the Chateau, ensuring its provenance. Available in 750ml, 1500ml, and 3000ml formats.

The 2020 vintage is a blend of 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot, highly acclaimed by critics for its energetic and concentrated personality. Expect flavors of blackberries, dried herbs, hints of tobacco, and sweet floral notes, culminating in a long, lavish finish.

Tasting Notes

"The 2020 Petit Gravet Aîné bristles with energy and tension. An unusual Cabernet Franc-based Saint-Émilion, Petit Gravet Aîné shows a bit more concentration this year, which adds to its decidedly heady, extravagant personality. Even so, all the elements are so well balanced. Super-ripe black cherry, mocha, dried herbs and sweet floral top notes meld into the extravagant, lavish finish."

- 97, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, December 2022

"The 2020 Petit Gravet Aîné has a deep garnet-purple color, needing a little swirling to unlock profound notions of preserved plums, blackberry jam and raspberry coulis, plus hints of tar, red roses and dried Provence herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate is elegantly crafted with tightly knit black fruit and savory layers and very fine-grained tannins, lifted with seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy. It is a wine of great restraint and with a quiet intensity that will reward the patient.

This is a tiny 2.5-hectare vineyard in the Saint-Émilion foothills, situated west of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière in deep, sandy-clay soils."
