Wine Luncheon: Holy Grail of Natural Wine – Pierre Overnoy Tasting

  • Carlyle & Co. Hong Kong - The “Dining Room” 56/F, Carlyle & Co. Hong Kong, Victoria Dockside, 18 Salisbury Road Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Hong Kong SAR China (map)

Join us for an exclusive Wine Luncheon at Carlyle & Co. Hong Kong on Mar 28 (Sat) to discover the legendary Pierre Overnoy — natural wine's holy grail from the Jura💝. Enjoy an intimate five-course meal with a rare vertical tasting of these cult bottles, paired to highlight their purity, depth, and vibrant energy.

From a tiny 6-7 hectare estate in Pupillin (near Arbois), these wines are produced in very limited quantities — often around 20,000 bottles in top years — making them among the world's most sought-after natural wines.

Pierre Overnoy, born in 1937 and revered as the "pope" of natural wine, pioneered organic viticulture from the late 1960s and sulfur-free winemaking in 1984😎, inspired by his mentor and friend Jules Chauvet. This bold move defied convention but sparked a global revolution in natural winemaking. His goal was always unadulterated expression of Pupillin's mineral-rich terroir🌱.

In 1990, young Emmanuel Houillon joined as an apprentice, forging a father-son bond with Pierre. When Pierre retired in 2001, Emmanuel and his wife Anne took the helm, and they uphold the uncompromising ethos: certified organic with biodynamic influences, hand-tended vines🌱, no chemicals or additions, and hands-off élevage in barrels, foudres, and concrete eggs. Pierre, in his late 80s, still guides daily.

These wines are profoundly alive — electric with tension, minerality, and integrity from patient, taste-driven releases (no fixed schedules). All the labels are the same - iconic wax caps identify them: white for Chardonnay, yellow for Savagnin, red for Poulsard, violet for the rare Ploussard-Trousseau (first made in 2018)🍇.

Expect the Chardonnays from 50+ year old vines from lieu-dit Viandris to show crystalline purity with oxidative hints, profound minerality, and layered complexity. The Savagnins, aged in foudres for 4 years, deliver nutty, floral, and deeply saline depth, echoing Jura's unique character without the full sous-voile of Vin Jaune. The reds — Poulsard and the Ploussard-Trousseau — are light yet intense, with bright red fruit, earthy spice, and silky texture that defy expectations of "natural" reds.

This is an unforgettable journey into one of natural wine's greatest legends—pure, profound, and full of soul.🫶
