🤫 STILL RELATIVELY UNKNOWN TO MOST, BUT NOT FOR LONG 🤫
Domaine Le Guellec-Ducouet has Greg Sherwood MW sounding the alarm. “This is a grower destined to become one of the must-haves of Gevrey-Chambertin,” he declares, ranking these Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir wines “among the most exciting village level Gevrey-Chambertin wines being produced at the moment, without exception🍷.” He praises their “luscious and elegant” style.
Revived in 2018 by friends Michael Le Guellec and Arnaud Ducouet, the estate draws on family vines held since 1920🌱—including the rare walled Clos Champ monopole (part planted in the 1930s and another significant part in 1988) and Les Jeunes Rois (1965). Under Pierre Millemann’s guidance, they embrace sustainable, organic practices and minimal intervention to capture pure Gevrey-Chambertin terroir.
Winemaking is precise and gentle: cool macerations in temperature-controlled stainless steel, minimal extraction, and oak chosen thoughtfully (around 30% new, from different tonnelleries matched plot-by-plot). Stems are used flexibly according to the vintage. The focus is purity, terroir, and finesse with classic Gevrey power.💗
The wines are classic yet refined🫶: powerful and structured, with vibrant red and dark cherry fruit, savory earth, spice, impressive finesse and strong aging potential.
Wines we’ll explore on 16 July:
Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois: From limestone and stony soils near Tortochot and Duroche. It brings lively minerality, bright blue fruit and a refreshing energy.
Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Champ (Monopole): Located right in the family backyard on the border of Brochon. A mix of old vines (1930s & 1988) gives excellent concentration. Richer and more expressive, with blueberry depth, oak spice and impressive structure.
Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvee 93: Made from the domaine’s oldest vines (named after their age in the vintage year). More concentrated and layered, with fine tannins and excellent poise.
These limited-production bottles offer outstanding value from a rising star. Authentic, terroir-driven Burgundy that every wine lover should discover before they become highly sought-after.
