Gangloff Condrieu Blanc is a benchmark Viognier🙌: fragrant and inviting, with white peach, apricot, citrus zest, honeysuckle and spring flowers, often touched by subtle spice. Grown on steep, granitic slopes, the wine’s generous stone-fruit character is lifted by a distinctive stony freshness. Beneath the perfume sits a silky, layered palate with a stony, refreshing edge that gives the wine both richness and clarity. Among the 2020 to 2023 vintages, 2020 and 2022 are warmer and more rounded; 2021 and 2023 are cooler and more brightly aromatic. A beautiful match for richly flavoured seafood, roast poultry, or an unhurried evening.
Gangloff Cote Rotie La Sereine Noire shows a more shadowed, savoury side of the domaine🍷. From Cote-Rotie’s steep slopes, this old-vine Syrah combines dark berries, violets, black pepper, olive and smoke with savoury depth and mineral tension. The depth is unmistakable, yet the texture is refined: polished tannins, a cool mineral line and a lingering perfume make it as elegant as it is powerful. The 2017 and 2018 are beginning to show graceful complexity; the 2020 is still tightly wound, with vibrant fruit and a long life ahead.

While Elsa Gangloff declined my request to taste at the property, arguing that all the wines were already sold, I was able to acquire a bottle. Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, jasmine, honeysuckle and ripe orchard fruits, the 2022 Condrieu from Elsa Ganfloff possesses a medium to full-bodied, dense and layered palate, with an enveloping, seamless texture, bright acids for a Viognier and a long, ethereal, spicy finish enhanced by delicate gastronomic bitterness. This is an absolute classic at this estate that should age beautifully over the next decade.
