In 2006, Dominique Laurent — widely known as the “Barrel Wizard” — and his son Jean founded Domaine Laurent Pere et Fils, 🙌their own dedicated estate domaine.
Dominique’s reputation comes from his extraordinary cooperage🪵. He personally selects ancient oak trees (some nearly 300 years old) from the Tronçais forest, hand-splits the staves, and air-dries them for a full 52 months to create his famous “Magic Casks.” These exceptional barrels are so highly regarded that they’re also used by legendary estates like Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Armand Rousseau, Zind-Humbrecht and Pingus.
The domaine is now run by Jean Laurent, with his father Dominique providing support from behind the scenes. Their winemaking is beautifully minimalist😊: no pumps, no additives, only native yeasts, and gentle whole-cluster handling. The goal is purity — letting the terroir express itself with finesse and clarity.
