Benjamin Leroux is one of those rare Burgundy voices whose wines feel both classical and completely his own💕. A first-generation vigneron from Beaune, he never inherited vineyards—yet that absence became the spark. At twenty-four he took the reins at Domaine Comte Armand and spent fifteen formative vintages there, learning organic and biodynamic farming and the quiet art of letting vines speak. In 2007 he launched his own project and has since built one of the Cote d’Or’s most admired ranges.
What draws people to Benjamin Leroux wines is their purity. He doesn’t impose a signature style. He listens🤲🏻. The result is transparent, lifted, precise Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—fruit that tastes of place, subtle oak, texture both fine and generous. Benjamin Leroux Volnay Les Caillerets Premier Cru 2019 - Bt | NM93-95

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes mostly from Les Sevrées and La Justice, the rest from Brochon. It offers a mixture of red and black fruit on a nose that needs a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, modest weight and a slight attenuation on the finish that should fill out by the time of bottling.

Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines Premier Cru 2014 - Bt | NM93

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru les Baudines from Benjamin Leroux was showing some noticeable reduction on the nose, and although I initially did not quite get both hands on the terroir as I expected to when I originally tasted the wine from barrel, it soon gained clarity and a seam of mineralité. The palate is fresh and crisp, quite tensile with a pleasant bitterness toward the finish that gently fans out. This is a superb Les Baudines whose energy should see it age for many years. Tasted September 2017.

Ripe cherry, a whisper of smoke, soft strawberry and damp earth greet the nose. Dark fruit shows well on the palate, though still a touch reserved. Enjoyable already, and a few more years should bring greater depth and polish.

Jolly and cheerful mid red. Purple, lively and high quality. Picked at the ideal moment, this is crisp red fruit, delicious, nuanced, with the volume for Clos Vougeot, very well made. Nicely integrated oak at the finish. Tasted Nov 2019 by Jasper Morris MW.

Benjamin Leroux Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2013 - Bt | NM92-94

The 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from 40- to 60-year-old vines. The bouquet is well defined, controlled and perhaps conservative...but there is something classy and sophisticated in these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, crisp acidity and a very elegant, sorbet-fresh finish. Very fine - this is a lovely Griotte that should age with style and grace.

Benjamin Leroux Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 - Bt | NM93-95

The 2015 Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru, from the top of the vineyard, has a fragrant bouquet with rose petal and iris aromas infusing the redcurrant and raspberry preserve scents, merging with more blue fruit as it opens in the glass. The whole cluster fruit (25%) lends the palate freshness and tension, sensual and harmonious with brown spices littered over the finish. This is a very satisfying, regal Griotte-Chambertin determined to give the Chambertin a run for its money.

One of Leroux's finest reds is the 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru, an ample and enveloping wine that offers up aromas of raspberries, red fruit compote, orange rind, exotic spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming, with fine concentration and lively acids, it's velvety and seamless, concluding with a long, oak-inflected finish.
