Rayas, Clos Rougeard, Chave and More in Our Christmas Sale

Loire wines always feel like a breath of fresh air—bright Sancerre, serious, structured, mineral Chenin Blancs such as Clos Rougeard Saumur Blanc Breze, and those Chinon reds full of soft red fruits.
Rhone wines hit differently in December: intense, pepper-laced, long-lived Syrahs from the north (think icons like M. Chapoutier’s Ermitage Le Pavillon or Domaine Jean-Louis Chave’s Hermitage) and those sunny, spice-laden southern reds and whites—Chateauneuf-du-Pape especially, from masters like Henri Bonneau—that warm you right through with ripe fruit and earth depth.
With our Christmas wine sale on, here are a few favourite Loire and Rhone bottles the team loves opening at home—perfect for the holidays, particularly tempting at these festive prices 🤩

Domaine Yves et Mathilde Gangloff Condrieu Blanc 2023 - Bt
HK$1100 ▷ HK$900
A 100% Viognier crafted on the steep granite slopes of the Northern Rhône. It opens with enticing aromas of apricot, honey, and white flowers, leading to a rich, creamy palate of peach and citrus lifted by vibrant acidity, finishing long with subtle toasted almond notes. Pure elegance in every sip - cellar up to a decade for even greater rewards.
Clos Rougeard Saumur Blanc Breze 2013 - Bt
HK$2400 ▷ HK$1900
A pure Chenin Blanc from vines over 60 years old, among the region's oldest. It offers vibrant acidity on a profound mineral foundation, with mild floral aromas and concentrated yellow fruit notes. Fresh yet beautifully mature, it delivers a long, dry finish—truly the Montrachet of the Loire when properly aged.
Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny 2009 - Bt | VNS91
HK$2600 ▷ HK$1900
Dark ruby with a hint of garnet. Lovely violet lift to the aromas of ripe plum, black olive and licorice. Fresh and aromatic on the palate, showing noteworthy verve to the enormously rich flavors of sour cherry, wild flowers, smoky spices, licorice and mint. Finishes long and lively in spite of its concentration, with firm but smooth tannins. Nady believes this will evolve along the lines of the great warm vintages of the past like 1959 and 1947.

Richard Leroy Anjou Blanc Les Rouliers 2018 - Bt
HK$2800 ▷ HK$2400
2018 Les Rouliers opens with a restrained, mineral-driven nose of salinity, toasted notes, lemon zest, and white flowers. From only 0.70ha of low-yielding Chenin vines, the palate is rich yet taut, with refined texture, pleasant bitterness, and impressive length. Elegant Chenin at its finest.
Henri Bonneau Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve des Celestins 2009 - Bt
HK$3800 ▷ HK$3100
Tasted from bottle include the 2009 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve des Célestins, which was purchased stateside. It’s about as Provençal as they come and garrigue, kirsch liqueur, cured meats, saddle leather and licorice notes literally soar from this ruby-colored, full-bodied, sexy, heady Châteauneuf du Pape that has tons of glycerin and fat, sweet tannin and a great finish. Reminding me of a lighter weight 1990 with its sunny, sexy personality, it’s already hard to resist and should continue drinking nicely for 15+ years.

M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon 1989 - Bt | RP100
HK$3900 ▷ HK$3100
The 1989 Le Pavilion is a prodigious wine. Made from yields of 14 hectoliters per hectare, this parcel of old vines (averaging 70-80 years of age) has produced an opaque black/purple-colored wine, with a hauntingly stunning bouquet of violets, cassis, minerals, and new oak. In the mouth, the similarity in texture, richness, and perfect balance to the compelling 1986 Mouton-Rothschild is striking, only this wine is richer and longer. This extraordinarily well-balanced wine will probably not be ready to drink for at least 5-10 years, but it will evolve for three decades or more. It is an enormous yet amazingly well-delineated wine. I lament the fact that there are only 600 cases of this magnificent wine. This great Hermitage was the first of a trilogy (1989, 1990, and 1991) of exquisite Le Pavillons. Last tasted 12/95.

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 2015 - Bt | RP93
HK$5400 ▷ HK$4400
Notes of chocolate, loamy soils, dark cherries, petals and spices mingle with carnal notes on the nose of the 2015 Hermitage. Full-bodied, rich and compact, it's deep and layered, framed by structured tannins enhanced by a solar profile with a slightly austere, firm character in the finish. Concluding with notes of licorice and meat, it's rather introverted at this stage.

Chateau Rayas Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve Blanc 2007 - Bt | JR18.5
HK$8600 ▷ HK$7400
Grenache Blanc 50%, Clairette 50%. Dense and savoury on the nose and then – kerpow – a vibrant syrup, though not sweet. 'Here you’re in a deeper armchair,' smiled Reynaud as he watched us tasting it. Honey, yet raciness too. So rich. We congratulated him. 'It’s nature', he shrugged. (JR)
