The Schonfels Fass 11 Riesling GG 2020, from over 100-year-old ungrafted vines on a windswept cliff, features white flowers, minty herbs, grapefruit zest, and white peach on the nose, while the palate offers crisp citrus, white pepper, and crushed stone, finishing with a saline touch. A pure, complex Riesling that’s both vibrant and refined.👍🏻
Take your Riesling love to the next level with Peter Lauer’s bubbly Sekts. These wines are made using the traditional method, hand-riddled. Primarily blending 80% Ayler Kupp and 20% Scheidterberg grapes, they’re the perfect mix of crisp, deep minerality and lush fruit. The Sekt Brut 2021 (disgorged 2024) spends 30 months on its lees, balancing fine bubbles with deep minerality, with notes of red apple, wet slate, and a hint of sourdough yeast.
The Saar Reserve Riesling Sekt Brut 1999 (disgorged 2021) is a rare gem from one of Saar’s best vintages. Aged over 20 years on its lees, this sparkler bursts with quince, dried apricot, honey, and roasted hazelnuts, layered with smokiness. Its dense, silky texture and ripe acidity make it a perfect bottle!💖

Lauer’s 2020 Schonfels GG Fass 11 is deep, intense and pure on the still yeasty nose that exhibits ripe fruit intertwined with herbal/floral and stony aromas. Crystalline and lean on the palate and with enormous length, this is a pure and refined, vegetal-flavored dry Riesling with remarkable finesse and tension. More classic maybe than the richer van Volxem. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.
