This week we are offering the exceptional wines of Chateau des Tours and Domaine des Tours, crafted by Emmanuel Reynaud, the genius behind Chateau Rayas. Based in Sarrians in the Rhone Valley, Reynaud’s wines are renowned for their purity, elegance, and complexity, reflecting his meticulous, organic approach. Since taking over the family estate, Emmanuel cultivates old-vine Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Merlot, Grenache Blanc, and Clairette with care, using hand-harvesting, and minimal-intervention vinification to express their terroir.🫶

Chateau des Tours produces flagship wines under the Vacqueyras and Cotes du Rhone appellations, known for their depth, structure, and aromatic intensity. Folium Vineyard in Marlborough’s Brancott Valley does things differently, and it’s all about the vines🌱. Japanese winemaker Takaki Okada named his NZ winery Folium—Latin for LEAF—because his dry-farmed vines do the hard work, digging deep into clay-based soils shaped by ancient glaciers and rivers. Unlike nearly every other vineyard in Marlborough that relies on irrigation, Folium skips it, pushing the vines’ roots deep to find water. These soils hold just enough moisture to balance the vines, crafting wines that truly capture their terroir and vintage.

Without irrigation, Folium’s vines grow fewer leaves, letting more sunlight reach the grapes. This reduces those grassy, green flavors (Methoxypyrazines) typical of Marlborough. These wines are unlike any Marlborough bottles you know.

With 35-year-old vines, Pierre’s wines capture Chavignol’s warm microclimate, offering a richer, more expressive style than your typical light Sancerre—think of it as the "grand cru" vibe😚, even if the term isn't official.
