Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau Saint-Veran Prelude 2022 - Bt | NM90-92

The 2022 Saint Véran Prélude is a blend of four warmer south-facing parcels, 60% in Prissé and 40% in Chasselas, matured for 12 months, 50% in stainless steel and 50% in demi-muids. This has just gone into its shell a little since I tasted it last year, light touches of white peach and hints of chalk. The palate is very well balanced. There is density here rather than fatness thanks to the acidity, lively at the moment, just a patina of wood to be absorbed on the finish, so afford this 8-10 months in bottle.

Dominique Cornin Pouilly-Fuisse Clos du Roy 2021 - Bt | RP92

The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos du Roy is one of the richer wines in the range, exhibiting notes of honeyed orchard fruit, citrus zest, white flowers and lilac, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and satiny palate that's pure, layered and saline. Formerly known as the Clos Reyssié, this is always a more muscular bottling, so the cooler vintage has actually imparted unusual finesse.

This wine blends lively spice with juicy dark plum and black raspberry, touched by warm earth. Medium-bodied with good density and a firm core, it finishes with bold, rustic grip. A classic, old-school style that asks for patience—best cellared 5+ years.

Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2015 - Bt | JM93

Bright medium deep colour, stemmy reduction that does not clear quickly. Cleaner on the palate with an impressive intensity, more than the nose suggested. Intense red fruit, with enough acidity behind, and a very pleasing aftertaste. Tasted Sep 2018.

Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet Tete du Clos Premier Cru 2012 - Bt | NM91-93

The 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Tete du Clos, which Benjamin discovered when working with Vincent Dancer, where it is normally blended with Morgeot, is shared with David Croix (see Domaine des Croix). It has a wonderful, mineral-driven bouquet with superb delineation: almost Puligny-like in style with great tension. The palate is very well-balanced and concentrated with fresh pear, orange zest and mineral notes that build and build in the mouth. This should be superb after bottling.

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Premier Cru 2015 - Bt | NM90-92

The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru, a blend of Volnay Les Pitures and Les Mitans (the latter partially uprooted in recent years so the blend comprises mainly of the former) saw about 15% new oak. It has a very intense bouquet with dark cherries, blackcurrant, violet and cassis, quite opaque at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is certainly good concentration here with black rather than red fruit, noticeable salinity with a sappy, though slightly introverted finish that should gain more personality by the time of bottling. This is an excellent Volnay.

Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Perrieres Premier Cru 2009 - Bt | VNS93+

Bright pale yellow. Smoke, minerals, menthol and flowers on the slightly reduced nose. Juicy, spicy, intense and bright, with terrific penetration and cut for 2009. A hint of nutty oak gives this very young wine a touch of sweetness but it will nonetheless need several years of bottle aging to harmonize. Loads of potential here.
