1/ Champagne Aubry Champagne Le Nombre d'Or ''Campaniae Veteres Vites'' 2015 - Bt | AG92

Special Offer : HK$600 HK$480

Established in 1790, Champagne Aubry carries not only the stories of tradition but also of revival.

In 1986, Pierre and Philippe Aubry embarked on a mission to revive nearly extinct 18th-century grape varieties. Through meticulous efforts, they rediscovered and replanted Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Fromenteau, and Enfumé (a variant of Pinot Gris). Blended with Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay, these rare grapes gave birth to Le Nombre d’Or cuvée.

Tasting notes

The 2015 Brut Le Nombre d' Or Veteres Vites is exotic, beguiling and effusive. A whole range of floral and savory notes lifts from the glass. There's terrific energy and verve here. There are some slightly vegetal notes, which is typical of the year. For that reason, I would prefer to drink the 2015 sooner rather than later. This is nicely done. Disgorged: February, 2021.

2/ Domaine de la Noblaie Pierre de Tuf 2009 – Bt | CK97

Special Offer : HK$350 HK$280

Jérôme Billard, the current proprietor, honed his winemaking skills at renowned estates like Petrus, Dominus, and Sacred Hill before returning to his family's estate. His expertise shines through in Pierre de Tuf, the estate's flagship cuvée. Crafted from low-yielding, 70-year-old vines, the grapes are carefully fermented in a 15th-century vat and aged in oak barrels and stainless steel. Pierre de Tuf showcases a captivating blend of rich yet elegant flavors, ripe tannins, and dark fruit notes, offering complexity and excellent aging potential.

Tasting notes

This is Jérôme Billard’s flagship cuvée, produced from a selection of plots very close to his house, picked by hand and vinified in a limestone vat which dates back many centuries. It displays a beautifully concentrated appearance in the glass, with a slightly saturated claret-red and vibrant rim which suggests more substance than either Les Chiens-Chiens or Les Blancs Manteaux. The nose is striking, filled with the scents of crushed limestone and gravel, with black tea and black olive too, scented with haunting notes of red rose petal and tar which call to mind memories of Barolo as much as they do Chinon. There follows a delicious palate, cool, tense and sinewy, with touches of limestone, peppery, with a fresh character. Still plenty of ripe tannic substance here, and with the wine’s supple texture it all works very well, through to the confident structure of the finish. Great wine, so delicious it will be difficult to keep my hands off my other bottles. Drink or hold.
