These unmissable German Rieslings from masters Egon MĂŒller-Scharzhof and Weingut Keller are the pinnacle of precision and elegance. The Egon Muller-Scharzhof Scharzhofberger Riesling Spatlese 2019 (RP98), available in a rare magnum, dazzles with a vibrant tropical fruit profile and a multi-layered palateâdescribed as âScharzhofberger at its very bestâ and a Spatlese âclose to perfection.â Equally captivating, Kellerâs Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling GG 2021 (VNS95) hails from Rheingessenâs chalky slopes, delivering a rich citrusy freshness with the back-up energy of herbs and spices that makes it even more interesting and full of energy, not to mention a finish that blends density, lightness, and rich minerality, making it âthe most alluring editionâ of Kirchspiel yet, as described by David Schildknecht on Vinous.com.
For collectors, these wines are rare gems that elevate any cellar. Kellerâs Dalsheimer Oberer Hubacker Riesling GG 2021 (VNS93), sourced from old vines in the historic Hubacker vineyardâa Keller family monopole owned since 1789âreflects the cool 2021 vintage with a refined intensity and vibrant acidity, promising a long, graceful evolution in the bottle. Another standout, Kellerâs Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling GG 2019 (RP96), from the exceptional 2019 vintage, showcases the elegance of Rheingessenâs finest terroir with a refined, chalky intensity and a juicy richness that promises to evolve beautifully over the next decade.
With scores up to 98 points and the last bottles available, these are must-haves for any serious collection!

Weingut Keller Dalsheimer Hubacker Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2019 - Bt | VNS93
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$1980/bt)
A haunting, penetratingly high-toned mĂ©lange of gentian, black tea, bruised apple skin and quince distillate resembles the nose of no other Hubacker that I can recall. (If told I were smelling Abtserde, Iâd have believed it.) As it turns out, this is also one of, if not the most, impressive â but also, the most youthfully expressive â Hubacker of my experience. The palate, like the nose, oers distillate-like, estrous concentration, haunting inner-mouth smokiness and enough citrus juice to animate. A vibrant sense of energy is conveyed in a soaringly sustained nish.

Weingut Keller Dalsheimer Hubacker Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs 2020 - Bt | VNS91
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$1980/bt)
Apple and grapefruit are pungently accompanied by their bruised skins on a nose presages the concentration exhibited on a sappy yet fundamentally rm palate. Crushed stone and green wood hints contribute to the sense of austerity in a nish that is nonetheless impressively persistent and possessive of more than enough sheer juiciness to refresh. I think â nor does Keller disagree (though, to be sure, heâll think Iâm being too hard on it!) â that this simply needs time.

Weingut Keller Dalsheimer Oberer Hubacker Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs 2021 - Bt | VNS93
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$2250/bt)
Pear and apple notes on both the nose and palate are laced with marjoram and sage and are strongly marked by their pits, making for a very forceful, pungent and piquant presentation with a smoky aura. Along with those aforementioned aromas and avors, a vivid sense of stoniness prevails, which, taken together with an almost implosive impression of density-without-weight, leads one to think of this wine as tightly-coiled and embryonic. The gripping, nearly implacable nish reinforces that impression with its combination of biting intensity and almost severe stoniness. The source, just as in previous vintages, is the familyâs old vines in the Hubacker Einzellage. But in 2021, Keller registered the cadastral designation âOberer Hubackerâ that was used on estate labels before being stricken from the ocial vineyard register in 1971, and which refers to a ten acre family monopole (as is now also indicated on the label).

Weingut Keller Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs 2021 - Bt | VNS95
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$2250/bt)
The aromas here are enticing and boldly projected: iris, moss, basil and pitinected white peach. On the palate, there is gum-coating concentration and a satiny, rich texture, but at the same time, there's bright animation thanks to the tangy freshness of white peach, now enhanced by lime. Thereâs also a paradoxical perception of density (what Keller would term âinner densityâ) allied to levity. Pepper and chalk dust add to the mouth-shaking vibrancy of the nish, but without overshadowing the wineâs richness of fruit or the somehow cooling aspect of herbs and bittersweet oral perfume. I donât believe Iâve tasted a more alluring edition of Kirchspiel, and this oneâs denitely more open and expressive today than Kellerâs other chalk-informed Grosse GewĂ€chse of this vintage.

Weingut Keller Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs 2020 - Bt | VNS94
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$1980/bt)
Lime, grapefruit, lavender, roux and thyme combine for a haunting fragrance. Crisp, tangy, fresh apple joins the aforementioned elements on a polished, rm palate. The nish is chalky and stony, lengthened by piquancy of grapefruit pips. It's mouthwateringly saline and mouth-shakingly vibrant, bursting unexpectedly into a shower of citrus and apple juiciness. The overall impression here is of striking clarity and energy. This will be exciting to follow. (As usual, there was also a not-quite-legally-dry âRRâ bottling from Kirchspiel this vintage, but I did not have an opportunity to taste it.)

Weingut Keller Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs 2019 - Bt | RP96
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$1800/bt)
Keller's 2019 Kirchspiel Riesling GG opens puristic and chalky on the nose with lemon oil and woodruff aromas. Juicy, round and rich on the palate, with smooth suppleness, fine tannins and a stimulating kick on the finish, this is a less puristic but juicy and intense Riesling of great class.

Weingut Keller Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs 2016 - Bt | VNS93
(750ml, 1 bottle, HK$1900/bt)
The nose here is surprisingly subdued, oering intimations of citrus and crushed stone. But the wine delivers a veritable mouthful of chalk along with juicy, oregano-laced lime, grapefruit and white peach. Firm in feel but not austerely hard, it nishes with a vivid sense of energy and a piquant peach kernel glow that never turns into outright bitterness or precludes a striking sense of transparency to stony and alkaline nuances.
