The Estate
In Premeaux-Prissey, a tranquil hamlet of Nuits-Saint-Georges, located mere steps from Domaine de la Vougeraie, Domaine Truchetet is led by siblings Julie and Morgan Truchetet, the 6th generation of their family’s winemaking tradition, alongside Morgan’s wife, Pauline Genot. Since taking over from their father, Jean-Pierre, in January 2019, they have infused the 7-hectare estate with fresh energy and a bold vision, achieving organic certification in 2023. Their vineyards, averaging 60-year-old vines across gentle hills, offer ideal conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a focus on crafting refined Côte de Nuits Villages and Nuits-Saint-Georges village wines.
Julie, a viticulturalist with a decade of vineyard experience at her father’s side, meticulously tends the vineyards. Morgan, a graduate of Lycée Viticole de Beaune with a degree in Oenology and Viticulture and hands-on experience at Domaine Lescure, oversees winemaking. Pauline, from a winegrowing family, oversees business operations with sharp expertise. Together, their focus on soil health and organic viticulture, using minimal intervention, native yeasts, and gravity-fed methods, yields elegant, vibrant wines with precise terroir expression.
The trio also runs the “Morgan Truchetet” négociant label, launched in 2018, sourcing grapes from carefully monitored vines that they control. These grapes are vinified at the domaine, resulting in wines that complement the estate’s offerings with the same high standards.
Additionally, since November 2021, Pauline has managed her family’s vineyards in Saint-Romain and Auxey-Duresses, launching the “Vignoble de Pauline” label with its first vintage in 2022, vinified and aged at Domaine Truchetet, further expanding their portfolio.
Viticulture and Vinification
The organic vineyards are tended with meticulous handwork to nurture soil health.
Vines are pruned using Guyot and Cordon de Royat methods. Hand-disbudding removes counter-buds, ensuring airy vines that resist disease and ripen grapes evenly. Light leaf removal and hand-trimming optimize fruit maturity.
Cover crops boost soil biology and structure. To minimize soil disturbance, the roots of the cover crops naturally loosen and aerate the soil. No pesticides are used in the vineyards. Their treatments are essentially based on fresh plants (dandelion, nettle, horsetail, etc.) that they pick themselves and for which they make their own decoctions, infusions and extractions in order to put very low doses of sulfur and copper in the vines. A 20-person team harvests grapes in small crates for around a week to protect quality, avoid damaging the bunches and crushing the berries.
White wines are pneumatically pressed, settled, and fermented in barrels (around 20% new barrels) with alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, aged 10-12 months without stirring, then racked, blended in vats, and bottled on-site.
Reds, either destemmed or whole-cluster based on vintage and appellation, undergo cold maceration and native yeast fermentation in vats (stainless steel, enamel, or concrete vats), with tailored punch-downs and pump-overs. After devatting, pressing, and malolactic fermentation, reds age 12 months in barrels (around 20% new barrels), are blended in vats for 1-3 months before bottling.
